چکیده

Over several decades, atmosphere and ocean modelbased analyses have matured and proliferated, with climate modeling centers around the world generating routine real-time analyses as well as periodic retrospective reanalyses of the atmosphere and ocean state. These products support a range of scientific investigations, from initializing climate and Earth system model simulations, predictions, and projections to identifying and tracking the evolution of modes of variability, elucidating trends and extremes in the atmosphere and ocean, and providing a basis for decision support analyses, among a variety of other applications.

Forum for Arctic Modeling and Observational Synthesis (FAMOS): Past, current, and future activities

The overall goal of the Forum for Arctic Modeling and Observing Synthesis (FAMOS) community activities reported in this special issue is to enhance understanding of processes and mechanisms driving Arctic Ocean marine and sea ice changes, and the consequences of those changes especially in biogeochemical and ecosystem studies. Major 2013–2015 FAMOS accomplishments to date are: identification of...

Oceanographic regime shifts and tuna recruitment in the western and central Pacific Ocean

This analysis aims to establish whether the ‘regime shifts’ documented for the north Pacific Ocean are seen in the western and central Pacific Ocean (WCPO) and are relevant to recruitment variation for tropical tunas. Quantitative indicators of oceanographic state are derived by multivariate analysis of physical and biological variables output from an ocean general circulation and biogeochemica...

Quantifying the E ects of Noise on Biogeochemical Models

The need to understand the eeects of anthropogenic perturbations on the ocean carbon cycle has sparked a new interest in biogeochemical models in recent years. These models are now being coupled with physical ocean circulation models. For this coupling to generate realistic uxes of nutrients and carbon, the biogeochemical equations need to exhibit realistic dynamics. As a rst step in the develo...

Evaluating the performance of Atmosphere-Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCM) in simulating temperature variable in Ahwaz and Abadan stations

Climate changes caused by global warming has presented challenges to human society. Studying the Changes of climate variables in the future decades by using output data’s of Atmosphere-Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCM) is a way of perusing climate fluctuation in a region. In this study, the focus is on the AOGCM proceeds in simulating of variable temperature in Ahwaz and Abadan stations. ...

A statistical overview and perspectives on data assimilation for marine biogeochemical models

Marine biogeochemistry refers to the processes associated with the planktonic ecosystem of the ocean. These are central to nutrient, carbon, and energy cycling, as well as providing the basis of the marine food chain. The field is being revolutionized by new data types and observing platforms, as well as by improvements in ocean modelling brought about by increasing computer power. To further o...
